Journal Two from Miranda

Hey Guys! I'm Miranda and I am majoring in Animal Science and Veterinary Technology. I grew up on the outskirts of Mount Gilead which is about 25-30 Minutes from Campus. I have always loved nature and the outdoors. One of my hobbies is hunting, which some people find ironic because I am also an animal lover at the same time. My fun fact was that I am the first person in my family to go to college. I have always been pushed to go far in my education and be the best that I can. I hope in college and this class I gain some new friends, have fun and enjoy this semester.

The idea that has stood out to me the most for the first 11 pages of The House On Mango Street was that the family is all that they truly got. Esperanza talks about how her family is always moving. There was at least four other houses that the family has moved into during her life. She says that each house has had a problem or a reason that the family wouldn't stay. The house on Mango Street is far from her mother and fathers dream. I feel that the writing of the story is at its best when the main character tells the reader that she feels all alone and she hopes for a real best friend of her own. It grabs the readers attention and makes you think about how the girl is really feeling inside of her mind.

  1. I agree with your statement saying that you feel as if the writing is at its best when the main character talks about how she feels along the way, how alone she thinks she really is and just wants a friend. I like how it makes you be able to see what she does and thinks like what you said.
